ther years. Thanksgiving (also known as Thanksgiving Day)
is an important federal holiday\, celebrated annually on the fourth Thurs
day of November in the United States. Thanksgiving precedes “Black Friday”
and is traditionally a holiday to give thanks for the food collected at t
he end of the harvest season. In
September 1620\, a small ship called the Mayflower left Plymouth\, Englan
d\, carrying 102 passengers embarked on a journey to discover the New Worl
d. After a treacherous journey lasting 66 days\, they arrived near the tip
of Cape Cod\, far north of their intended destination at the mouth of the
Hudson River. One month later\, the Mayflower crossed Massachusetts Bay\,
where the Pilgrims\, as they are now commonly known\, began the work of e
stablishing a village at Plymouth. Throughout that first brutal winter\, m
ost of the colonists remained on board the ship\, where they suffered from
exposure\, scurvy and outbreaks of contagious disease. Only half of the M
ayflower’s original passengers lived to see their first New England spring
. In March\, the remaining settlers moved ashore and began to harvest with
help and alliance with Native Americans of the area. This alliance tragic
ally remains one of the sole examples of harmony between European colonist
s and Native Americans. In November 1621\, after the Pilgrims’ fir
st corn harvest proved successful\, Governor William Bradford organized a
three-day celebratory feast\, now remembered as American’s “First Thanksgi
ving”- although\, it is argued that the Pilgrims themselves may not have u
sed the term “Thanksgiving” at the time. Historians also argue that the Pi
lgrims had their first true thanksgiving in 1623\, when they gave thanks f
or rain that ended a drought. In the second half of the 1600s\, thanksgivi
ngs after the harvest became more common and started to become annual even
ts. George Washington\, the first president of the United States\, proclai
med the first national Thanksgiving Day in 1789 and it officially became a
n annual holiday in 1863. Alt
hough Thanksgiving has historical roots in religious and cultural traditio
ns\, it has long been celebrated in a secular manner as well. Thanksgiving
is a time for many people to give thanks for what they have. Presently\,
it has become a day for families and friends to get together for a special
meal. The meal often includes a turkey\, stuffing\, potatoes\, cranberry
sauce\, gravy\, pumpkin pie\, and vegetables. Volunteering is a common Tha
nksgiving Day activity\, and communities often hold food drives and host f
ree dinners for the less fortunate. Parades have also become an important
part of the holiday in cities and towns across the United States. Easter is the oldest and most important festival of the Western Christian
year\, celebrating Jesus Christ’s resurrection (rising from the grave) fo
llowing his crucifixion on Good Friday. Easter Sunday is the culmination o
f Holy Week (but not part of it)\, and the first day of Eastertide. Easter
marks the end of the 40 days of Lent. Easter Sunday (or simply Easter Day
) is the first day of the Easter Week which ends on Easter Saturday. Christ’s resurrection forms the basis of Christian faith as it demonstr
ates Jesus to be the Son of God\, and symbolizes his conquest of death. According to the Go
spels it was at sunrise on the first Easter Day – the 3rd day following Je
sus’ death – that the women who followed Jesus found the great stone block

\nEntitled Shining Your Light – Reflecting Christ more clearly in our daily lives\, this will be a discussion-b ased series led by Jane Tant and additional members of the Core Team\, wit hout videos or any packaged curriculum. The goal will be developing a han ds-on\, real world understanding of what whole-life front line discipleshi p really looks like\, and how we can draw others to Christ by the way our faith shines through us in every aspect of our daily living.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for pizza and snacks before the movie!\nIt’s the song that brings ultimate hope to so many – often in the midst of life’s most c hallenging moments. Amazingly\, the song was written in mere minutes by M ercyMe lead singer Bart Millard. In reality\, those lyrics took a lifetim e to craft.
\nAlthough he found faith at a young age\, life wasn’t e asy for Bart. He leaned into an active imagination and his love of music as escapes from a troubled home life. As he grew older\, Bart turned to f ootball in hopes of somehow connecting with his abusive father. But a car eer-ending injury – combined with the vision of a teacher who saw unlimite d potential – set Bart on a musical pathway.

Small Town Summits are small\, local\, affordable gatherings of Christians who long for God’s glory to spread thr oughout the small places of New England. We welcome pastors and lay leader s\, men and women. Partnering with The Gospel Coalition New England\, our Summits provide support\, training\, encouragement\, and connection for Ne w England churches beyond the urban centers.
\nMuch of New England lies beyond the cities. Therefore\, to reach this region for Chris t many gospel workers must minister in the small places. We want to encour age and equip these faithful ministers. We don’t disdain the big conferenc es in the big cities with the well-known speakers (we attend and benefit f rom them). But our Summits are a bit different. We intend to go small: sma ll conferences in small places for small-town Christian workers.
\nIn common parlance\, the term ‘summit’ describes a gathering of le aders for the purpose of making significant decisions. Our Summits gather pastors and ministry leaders within a State or region. We learn from one a nother as we pray and plan for gospel advance. We worship together\, eat t ogether\, talk together\, learn together\, and pray together.
\nThe goal of Small Town Summits is to see the small places of New Engl and filled with healthy\, missional\, gospel-centered churches and Christi an workers\, for the glory of God.
